Proception = process and perception

Processes provide contexts to all things, from the interconnected structures of global-politics, to the minute reality constructing processes of the mind. Art is increasingly striving to make these processes transparent, and in effect changing the way we view them, thus evolving the processes themselves. Whether it is a reflection of the art process itself or an extension of further processes such as social interaction, art now provides a view of a vast range of evolving processes. Yet, it may no longer simply provide a closed perspective of such, for it must continually contact the viewer directly by transcending the contextual limitations of the artistic medium in order that the processes may be directly perceived. Interaction becomes an essential feature. Whether consciously or unconsciously the viewer transforms the artwork simply by their viewing, or by directly affecting a series of undetermined outcomes. The 'end' of such art looses meaning to the extent in which this interaction provides the primary experiential value. For even if it is 'turned off', the process involved may be entered into again as an extension of historical context or artist expression. Such an 'entering' reflects the freshness of proceptual art, in that it constantly defies the present conceptual limitations of the artistic medium in order to bring a fresh awareness to processes often hidden from our day-to-day awareness. Its true potential lies in its penetrating inversions of both inner awareness and global structuring. As universal interconnectedness is realized through the evolving nature of the internet and artworks stemming from such, perceptual processes are being brought to a higher level of awareness like never before, into spheres of experience that are common to all conscious beings. The emergent art of today therefore doesn't simply present itself as process; more essentially, it is a challenge to both our inner and outer realties as a continuing process of transformation.
